sn41.1:1.1 At one time several senior mendicants were staying near Macchikāsaṇḍa in the Wild Mango Grove.
sn41.1:1.2 Now at that time, after the meal, on return from almsround, several senior mendicants sat together in the pavilion and this discussion came up among them:
sn41.1:1.3 “Reverends, the ‘fetter’ and the ‘things that tighten the fetters’: do these things differ in both meaning and phrasing? Or do they mean the same thing, and differ only in the phrasing?”
sn41.1:1.4 Some senior mendicants answered like this:
sn41.1:1.5 “Reverends, the ‘fetter’ and the ‘things that tighten the fetters’: these things differ in both meaning and phrasing.”
sn41.1:1.6 But some senior mendicants answered like this:
sn41.1:1.7 “Reverends, the ‘fetter’ and the ‘things that tighten the fetters’ mean the same thing; they differ only in the phrasing.”
