Sinopsis singkat

Puṇṇa meminta Buddha memberi ajaran singkat sebelum ia pergi berlatih sendiri. Buddha menjelaskan enam indra dan bagaimana kegembiraan serta kemelekatan pada objek indra menumbuhkan penderitaan, sedangkan tidak menyambutnya dengan kemelekatan membawa penghentian. Ketika Puṇṇa mengatakan hendak pergi ke Sunāparanta, wilayah yang penduduknya dikenal keras, Buddha mengujinya: bagaimana bila ia dicaci, dipukul, dilempari, diserang dengan senjata, bahkan dibunuh? Pada setiap kemungkinan Puṇṇa menemukan alasan untuk tetap tanpa kebencian. Buddha menyatakan ia siap; Puṇṇa kemudian pergi, membimbing banyak orang, dan mencapai tujuan latihan.
