mn142:14.1 That is what the Buddha said.
mn142:14.2 Then the Holy One, the Teacher, went on to say:
mn142:14.3 “When an ethical person with trusting heart
mn142:14.4 gives a proper gift to unethical persons,
mn142:14.5 trusting in the ample fruit of deeds,
mn142:14.6 that offering is purified by the giver.
mn142:14.7 When an unethical and untrusting person,
mn142:14.8 gives an improper gift to ethical persons,
mn142:14.9 not trusting in the ample fruit of deeds,
mn142:14.10 that offering is purified by the receivers.
mn142:14.11 When an unethical and untrusting person,
mn142:14.12 gives an improper gift to unethical persons,
mn142:14.13 not trusting in the ample fruit of deeds,
mn142:14.14 I declare that gift is not very fruitful.
mn142:14.15 When an ethical person with trusting heart
mn142:14.16 gives a proper gift to ethical persons,
mn142:14.17 trusting in the ample fruit of deeds,
mn142:14.18 I declare that gift is abundantly fruitful.
mn142:14.19 But when a passionless one gives to the passionless
mn142:14.20 a proper gift with trusting heart,
mn142:14.21 trusting in the ample fruit of deeds,
mn142:14.22 that’s truly the best of material gifts.”
