an7.57:10.1 When it comes to these fruits of giving that are apparent in the present life, I don’t rely on faith in the Buddha,
an7.57:10.2 for I know them too.
an7.57:10.3 I’m a giver, a donor, and the perfected ones show sympathy for me first.
an7.57:10.4 I’m a giver, and the perfected ones approach me first.
an7.57:10.5 I’m a giver, and the perfected ones receive alms from me first.
an7.57:10.6 I’m a giver, and the perfected ones teach me Dhamma first.
an7.57:10.7 I’m a giver, and I have this good reputation:
an7.57:10.8 ‘General Sīha gives, serves, and attends on the Saṅgha.’
an7.57:10.9 I’m a giver, I enter any kind of assembly bold and self-assured, whether it’s an assembly of aristocrats, brahmins, householders, or ascetics.
an7.57:10.10 When it comes to these fruits of giving that are apparent in the present life, I don’t rely on faith in the Buddha,
an7.57:10.11 for I know them too.
an7.57:10.12 But when the Buddha says:
an7.57:10.13 ‘When a giver’s body breaks up, after death, they’re reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm.’ I don’t know this,
an7.57:10.14 so I rely on faith in the Buddha.”
an7.57:10.15 “That’s so true, Sīha! That’s so true!
an7.57:10.16 When a giver’s body breaks up, after death, they’re reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm.”
